Types of Gifts and Wording your Will

To ensure your wishes are honoured it is important that the wording used when leaving a gift in your Will is accurate. Some suggested wording has been provided below for each type of gift you can leave in your Will.

Residual Gift

A portion or percentage of your Estate or the balance remaining after your expenses are allocated. This type of gift provides the most benefit as it adjusts according to the value of your Estate and should not decrease after you make the selfless decision to leave a gift in your Will.

I give to the Flinders Foundation (ABN: 66 833 644 600) in aid of that institution and for its general purposes, _____ percent of my residual Estate/the sum of $ _____ (choose one option) to be applied as part of the assets of the Flinders Foundation.

Or you may decide that you would like to leave a residual gift of what is left of your Estate after providing for family and friends:

I give to the Flinders Foundation (ABN: 66 833 644 600) in aid of that institution and for its general purposes, the rest and residue of my Estate, to be applied as part of the assets of the Flinders Foundation.

Value-Specific Gift

You can nominate a specific amount to leave in your Will. This can be called a pecuniary gift.

If you would like to leave a specific bequest which includes a sum of money to a certain area of research or development at Flinders Foundation:

I give to the Flinders Foundation (ABN: 66 833 644 600) $ _____ and I desire but without creating a binding trust or legal obligation that the money be used for or towards __________ (nominate area) or the area of greatest need as determined by Flinders Foundation.

Item-Specific Gift

Some people choose to leave an item or items of value in their Will to a charity. This could include artworks, jewellery, special collections or shares.

I give to the Flinders Foundation (ABN: 66 833 644 600) in aid of that institution and for its general purposes, __________ (name items), free of all duties to be applied as part of the assets of the Flinders Foundation.
