Health and Wellbeing for Refugees

Posted 13 Dec 2019

What are the key factors affecting good health and wellbeing of refugees in their new life in Australia?

Flinders University Professor Anna Ziersch says supportive factors, as well as resettlement challenges encountered along the way, can have a big impact on the experiences of refugees in Australia and on their health and wellbeing.

She’ll use a Flinders Foundation Health Seed Grant to analyse data from an Australian government study called ‘Building a New Life in Australia’ which follows a group of refugees over time.

This work will help identify key factors that are important for positive refugee resettlement and good health and examine ways to use this information to inform ongoing settlement policies and future service planning.

Resettlement challenges can have a big impact on the experiences of refugees in Australia and their health and wellbeing.

Project title: Supporting resettlement and health and wellbeing for people from refugee and asylum seeking backgrounds: Developing and piloting a measure of integration.
